Checking for the symptoms

Just like how when your body reacts and acts up whenever you feel a cold or a flu coming, similarly your MacBook will tell you when it’s time to check the battery health.

No, Siri won’t be reminding you unless you ask Siri but recognizing the signs are a good way to know what is happening to your laptop and how you should be reacting to it.

These 4 signs should definitely put a pause on your tracks and get you to check your battery usage, before finding a new replacement.

1) Is that a baby bump?

Perhaps the most visually obvious sign would be the swelling of the battery as it ages. This causes bumps and expands your device, making it difficult to use your trackpad or in some cases, the screw starts bursting out (just like a button bursting out of a tight shirt).

This can get very dangerous if it is used over a prolonged period of time as it may catch fire or even explode. If it gets to a point where you can start to smell something burning and becomes very hot, switch off your device immediately!

2) Time-out!

What used to last around 5 - 8 hours of usage on a single charge now has been reduced to under an hour. When you start to notice that your current MacBook has a low battery run time and you have to constantly find a power plug to charge your laptop, it’s a clear indication that it’s not performing optimally as before.

3) Self-destruct in 3, 2...

Nothing is worse than watching your favourite show on Netflix and having your MacBook suddenly shut down because of a faulty battery. Just like your iPhones, your Mac can have unexpected shutdowns when it’s battery is nearing or past it’s cycle count. Frequent occurrence of shutdowns, especially after charging it, is a tell tale sign that your MacBook is in need of a new battery.

4) It’s getting hot in here

High usage of your MacBook, especially on battery-draining apps for long periods of time will cause your MacBook to heat up. However, when it starts to do so even after a short usage, then you know it’s time for a replacement. Prolonged usage will lead to the swelling of the battery as mentioned earlier and that should incentivize you to purchase a new battery ASAP!

Don't wait till the last minute

So now anytime you start to notice these signs, don’t ignore them! In fact, find a MacBook battery repair store near you or simply purchase it from our online store and change the battery yourself!
